we are a remote and cloud‑based VFX studio. we have the flexibility and expertise to assemble bespoke teams that can scale from a single artist to large multidisciplinary crews, enabling us to tackle the wildest and most ambitious projects. One of our strengths is to deliver large projects in tight deadlines.

Visual Effects

Titles and design

One of our specialities is working on titles and title sequences. jon hollis has collaborated with tomoato and more recently ultra oblique to produce some stunning titles.

Computer graphics and animation

inspired by the capabilities of blender we have gone fully into developing workflows and teams to deliver compter graphics across movies and commercials.

shoot supervision

years of experience on set - not only with directors and production companies on commercials but as full vfx supervision on movies. jon hollis cut his skills on set not only as the vfx guy but also as the director and second unit director.

we have produced thousands and thousands of shots ACROSS movies over the years. we are adept at working with our own pipelines or slotting in with whoever you have working on the final delivery..

pre visualisation and AI

we can provide a pre-visualisation and a tech visualisation for projects. more recently we have been using ai to bring ideas to life and explore different looks and executions in a fast way.

We work with freelance colourists. We can also work with any colourist you so wish to work with. We have CONNECTIONS with various grading suites and people.

meet the founder - jon hollis

Jon began his career as a tape operator at London post facility SVC. His rise though the ranks of the emerging digital editing and post-production scene was meteoric. Pioneering work with digital editing earned him a host of Best Editor awards for work with Nike and The Guardian. Cutting edge work on projects such as Dunlop ‘The Unexpected’ and Orange ‘Bar Chase’ earned him numerous awards as a visual effects artist. Jon is alone in having earned the distinction of being both Best Editor & Best Flame Artist in both Campaign & Televisual magazines.

After 8 years as Head of Editing at The Mill and an awarded founding director, Jon left to co-found the hugely successful visual effects company Smoke & Mirrors. It was both unique and groundbreaking. he worked on numerous (you guessed it) award winning campaigns. The biggest haul coming from the BBC Radio Scotland campaign with design collective Tomato.

Jon began directing in 1999, and has directed (even more) award-winning commercials for Schweppes, Sony Playstation, Magic FM and many more. 

Jon left Smoke and Mirrors to concentrate on image making through directing and post production, working seamlessly together. Running a state-of-the-art flame suite and dedicated to keep at the fore-front of technology is a must. “To be at the leading edge is something I feel I can only really achieve in being in charge of the work and the gear, remaining a small company keeps the creativity alive. And at frank vfx this is a must, this is home, this is where all my post production comes together”.
